Cacti and succulent are really having their moment in the sun right now. Maybe it's because of their most forgiving nature, or that they offer such an array of color and greenery without depleting our water resources. Either way, they're popping up all over the place. Who wouldn't love these cheery, tough plants?!
Okay folks, you've undoubtedly finished Stranger Things and now you don't know what to do with your life. The next show you should be clamoring to watch is The Get Down on Netflix. Created by Baz Luhrmann, this series tells the story of the birth of hip hop. It's very very Baz Luhrmann, which I think should be considered a genre onto it's own. He does not give two F!@#$ about structure or conventional storytelling, and I love it! It's all over the place and it feels frenetic with energy and passion. He really immerses you into the gritty world of the Bronx in the late 70's, when many kids were yearning for something less slick and superficial than the disco on the radio. Disco is beginning to be ushered out and hints of what we now know as hip hop start creeping in. There's even subtle hints of the punk scene bubbling forth. As in all of his projects, Baz stresses the importance of love and the celebration of art and music, and he does it all with such style. The amazing, 4 time Oscar winning Catherine Martin hits it out of the park again with her costumes in this series. She embraces the tail end of disco fashion, with an edge of punk and the emergence of hip hop culture flawlessly. It's so inspiring that there's a dress in the last episode, covered in gold sequins, in a drag club that made me yell YAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSS at the screen. Check out my inspiration pics from the show and that era, and my tips on how to make it modern. It's time to get down!

Spring has finally sprung and that means flowers are blooming everywhere! Light green buds are beginning to burst through the ground, the weather is getting warmer and layers of clothing are lightening. Floral patterns will always be classic and can bridge the gap between modern and traditional. These are a few of my favorite looks without the allergens.
Embrace the springtime and throw on something floral. It's not all Laura Ashley anymore. From housewares to foot ware, floral is ushering spring in with style. It will automatically boost your spirits and bring the sunshine in!
I LOVE TULLE! It's like wearing cotton candy on your person. Tulle has this wonderful sense of playfulness and whimsy and, when mixed with the right pieces, can be elegant and chic. I very often mix my flowy tulle skirts with a leather motorcycle jacket and boots. The key is to mix soft and hard, full with fitted. Here are my favorite looks and how you can mix tulle into your life.
So wearing leather has lost the bawdy stigma of the past. It is no longer just for the outlaws or the goth club kid. Wearing leather can even be pretty, just try mixing a tulle skirt with a motorcycle jacket! My style philosophy as a woman is to wear something that makes me feel feminine but I try to make sure it has a little edge to it. I want it to be known that I can kick your ass if needed, but I will be wearing heels. These are easy ways to style leather, they also make great faux leather these days so don't fret my vegan friends!
So be brave and give leather a try. I think you'll be surprised at the confidence that it gives you.
